The "Building a Successful Business using the Internet" course is your starting point. It takes you, step by step thought the process. It is the painless way to start your online business because you can have individual tutoring by the class teacher. If you get stuck, someone is there to help.

When is the next course in Scotland?

Are there courses outside Scotland?
Yes - there are courses all over the world. You can check the list of other colleges offering the course in your area. If you don't see a course in your area, why not try e-learning? Starting online business projects can still be achieved - the course work is delivered by webinar, email, phone so you can be located anywhere there is an internet connection. top

I can't make the free taster - can I still come on the course?
Yes - definitely. View the course information and course outline for more information. If you are still not sure, contact the course tutor. top

Do I need any special equipment?
The class takes place in a computer lab equipped with pcs, internet access and a printer. You will need internet access and a computer at home. The software you use is accessed online from any computer. All you need to bring to class is your brain, motivation, a pen and the printed materials you are given. Access to Excel and a memory stick may also be useful. Starting online business projects couldn't be easier. top

Will I have to do homework?
We recommend you do the homework to prevent you from falling behind and to make sure you graduate with the beginnings of your business. You should aim for at least 2 hours per week but there is no maximum. The more you work on your business from home the stronger the foundation when you leave. top

How many students are in the class?
The maximum class size is 12. top

What subjects are taught?
Please see the course outline for more details. We start with the basics of why only a small proportion of websites succeed, moving on to the process that will make your business work. There are 10 tried and proven steps - we move through each one every week. This starts with the planning - half the course is about putting your business plan in place. Prepare to succeeed and you will! You will then use the software to start building your site. Next comes driving traffic to the site and building up relationships with your visitors. Finally, we look at how you will use your site to generate in income. top

How long is the course?
10 weeks for 10 steps. But it does not end there - you are fully supported for a year. top

When will I start to make money?
How long is a piece of string? Starting online business is just like starting any other business - it takes time. If you have a lot of time to spend, you could start generating income very quickly. If you already have a business, you could see new enquiries for your products coming through right away. If you have an hour to spare each week, then it may take a little longer. top

Will there be other courses?
Yes there will be courses in 2011. If you would like to be kept informed of future courses, please complete this form. We will only send you details of courses. Alternatively, you could enrol on an e-learning course. The content is similar but the presentation takes place remotely over the internet, by email and phone. top

Is there another way to learn - I can't go to the classes?
We have several options for starting online business - from doing it yourself to paying someone else. Please see full details on the Academy. top

I already have a business idea - is the course still suitable?
Yes - the course will teach you how to make that idea successful online. All the steps are relevant although you may spend less time deciding what your concept will be. top

I already have a website - can I still do the course?
Yes. But we recommend you start a whole new site from scratch with a new domain name (although you can transfer your domain name if it fits the right criteria). top

How much is the course?
The 2010 courses cost £300. But you could be eligible for a £200 Grant from ILA200.top

Where is the course held?
Strathclyde University, Graham Hills Building, George Street. The venue is along George Street just before High Street. It is about a 5 minute walk from Queen Street Station. You can park for free in the staff car park after 5 pm or on the street after 6pm.

West Lothian College, Almondvale Crescent, Livingston, EH54 7EP. Free car parking in the campus. Bus services to Livingston Town centre, a short walk from the college. top

How do I enrol?

Download the Strathclyde University Form. Complete the details and send it to the address at the bottom of the form along with your payment. Please contact the College to enrol at West Lothian College. top

Is there a waiting list if the course is full?
If the course is full, you can complete this form to be kept informed of future classes. There will also be a waiting list if a student 'drops out'. If you don't want to wait, try our e-learning course where the same information is presented over the internet, by email and phone. top
